Map To The Meetings

The Pack Rats hold regular monthly meetings at the Ben Wilson Senior Center in Warminster, PA. Our meetings typically include a brief business portion, a raffle of unique hard to find items provided by our members, a speaker or program of interest to the VHF and above community, and of course the always popular coffee and donut time reserved for meeting and greeting. At specific times during the year our meetings focus on a particular theme such as Homebrewing, Contests, and updates from our ARRL league officials. We hold two outdoor meetings each year during the summer months, our outdoor auction nicknamed the "White Elephant Sale" and our club’s family picnic. All are welcome to attend any of our meetings and Packrat sponsored events.

In addition to club meetings the Pack Rats sponsor a number of operating and special events. The Monday Night Nets, monthly Microwave Activity Night, and W3CCX Beacons provide all VHF’ers the opportunity to check their equipment, share information, and improve their operating skills. For more then 20 years the Pack Rats have organized the "Mid-Atlantic VHF Conference" and are probably best known for "Hamarama" our annual flea market which continues to draw the largest attendance of any local hamfest.

The Pack Rats participate in two ARRL sponsored contests each year, the January VHF S.S. and the June VHF QSO Party. In January we operate from our home stations and pool our scores to compete in the club category of the contest. The Pack Rats have taken 1st place in this category 37 times! In June we head for the Pocono mountains and operate our club call W3CCX as a full multi-op station.

Home-brew night is a once a year meeting event where the ancient art of making ones own equipment is proudly demonstrated by the membership.

As busy as the Pack Rats appear to be from the above description, we still take time to help each other and are always looking for new potential members to join what we feel is the best VHF and above organization in the country. We have sometimes heard that new to VHF operators believe that the Mt. Airy VHF Radio Club is an exclusive group, closed to newcomers. It just isn't so! It's true that we expect more from our members than just a subscription to our newsletter, but if you have a genuine interest in VHF and above operating and equipment we have a wealth of knowledge, experience, and fellowship to share. We would personally like to invite you to any of our club meetings. Come and see for yourself what the Pack Rats are all about and how much fun VHF can be!
